Important changes in relation to 3CX update 18.8
1. Change of layout in web client and desktop app
System status, login and logout and override office hours etc has been relocated from the top left of the client to the top right.
2. Username and password are no longer created for you
Prior to version 18.8 the username and password of a user was send via the 3CX welcome email. To increase security this is now no longer the case.
The Welcome email will only have the email address registered to your account and a reset password link.
Note: Reset password link in email is a one-use link. So, in the future if you forget the password, you cannot reuse this password but will need to follow the new process in step 4 below.
Clicking the reset password link in the email will open a webpage for you to select your own password.
Entering your password twice in this 3CX screen will save this as your password to access the 3CX web client.
Note: Password should be at least 10 characters long with no spaces and contain a lowercase letter, an uppercase letter and a digit
A great tool is
https://www.dinopass.com/ to generate easy to remember passwords. Click the button "Another strong password, please".
3. Login Username
Moving forward the login username to access 3CX will slowly migrate to your email address and not your username/ extension number. For the mean time both will work, but it's a good idea to migrate to using your email address instead. Username is now your email address.
4. Forgotten password process change
Previously if you forgot your credentials (username or password) to login to the 3CX, you would request the welcome email to be sent again from Tronic or site admin.
This is no longer the case, and you can now reset the password yourself.
As long as you know your username/extension number or the registered email address for your account you can reset the password yourself by clicking "Forgot password?" on the 3CX login screen.
Then enter your username/extension number or the registered email address. This will send you an email with the one-use password reset link. Follow the process in 2. above.
5. Installing Desktop Application, for a new user or for a new PC
Previously to install the Desktop app on a PC you would click the Edge or Chrome symbol on the top left and then install from there. Now there is only the PWA install option using this method.
To install the "Desktop app", now you need to go to "Apps" on the bottom left of the webclient and then click "Desktop App". As per step 2 in the large screen shot below of the web client.
Then click the "Install" button and save the software to a location on your PC. As per step 3 in the large screen shot below of the webclient. As per Then open the downloaded file and install the application. Once installed open the new 3CX Desktop app.
You will have the below message displayed in the Desktop app.
Now go back to the webclient and click "Provision" as per step 4 below. This will setup and log you in the Desktop App. Enjoy.
NOTE: It's not recommended to use the legacy client, called "Windows App". This was deprecated in version 16 and is no longer being worked on or updated.
